Jagan suspends campaign for Owaisi
In an unusual gesture, YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has suspended his ongoing electioneering in Kadapa and rushing back to Hyderabad to call on MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi injured in a shoot-out on Saturday.
YSR's family has a long-standing and close relationship with Owaisi family. On several occasions in the past, MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi had showered praises on YSR for initiating several welfare measures for Muslim community. Continuing the tradition, Jagan is also maintaining good rapport with the MIM leaders including Asaduddin and Akbaruddin.
Moreover, this is an occasion for Jagan to counter widespread criticism that he was gravitating towards BJP and that he would support BJP-led NDA at the Centre after the 2014 elections. By putting off his electioneering and returning to Hyderabad, Jagan wants to send a message to the Muslim community in general that he and his family have been the true friends of minorities. Jagan will personally visit the hospital where Akbaruddin is undergoing treatment and also meet his family members.
